Conservatives in Dagenham have come together with fellow members from neighbouring areas to select Freddie Downing as the local Conservative candidate for the City and East constituency in the London Assembly election on 2nd May 2024, the same day as the election for the Mayor of London.
Freddie currently works in Parliament. Prior to that he was an accountant and tax advisor at Deloitte. He says:
City and East has been my home since 2016. The reason I want to be the candidate here is very simple: I care about my community and I don't like what's happened to it under Sadiq Khan.
The Conservative government has given us more police officers than ever before but Sadiq Khan cannot keep our neighbourhoods safe. The Mayor of London has had £9 billion of taxpayer cash for housing but we don't have enough homes. The government has bailed out TfL but Khan still hasn't stopped the strikes.
Sadiq Khan has had his chance and he's failed. It's time for a change in London. Change so we can be the London we know we can be again.
City and East can be the difference that gets the Conservative mayoral candidate over the line next year and beats Khan. I'm honoured to be leading that team.
The City and East Assembly constituency covers the Dagenham part of the Dagenham & Rainham parliamentary constituency and also the Barking constituency plus all of the City of London and the London Boroughs of Newham and Tower Hamlets.
The London Assembly serves to scrutinise the work of the Mayor of London and other London wide public bodies. It works on a wide range of policy areas including housing, policing, fire and emergency planning, transport, strategic development and more. Members raise issues of concern to Londoners, investigate proposals and consult on ways to improve life in the capital.
