Labour increase councillors allowance budget by £149,000.
Despite our best efforts in the recent local elections, Barking and Dagenham council returned 51 out of 51 Labour councillors.
With a Labour dominated administration on 18th July 2018, just two months after the local elections, the Labour administration voted to increase councillors allowances by £1,000 a year. Council leader Darren Rodwell will receive an extra £10,000 a year.
This increases the current Members’ Allowances budget from £838,000 to £988,000. That is a 17.8% increase in the budget.
The leader’s special allowance increased from £35,022 to £46,429, an increase of 32.5%. If you add on the basic councillor allowance then the leader of the council will receive £57,429 annually .
